Yves St Laurent saves the art market

The results are in from the first and most important round at Christie's auction of Yves St Laurent's art collection. The first night's totals brought in 264 million dollars and records were set for Matisse, Marcel Duchamp, Constantin Brancusi, James Ensor, Piet Mondrian and Giorgio de Chirico.

De Chirico, the Italian futurist has long been one of my personal favourite artists and I am glad to see he is finally getting the market recognition that his work deserves. Below is his record setting piece "At the Conservatory"

On the Christie's website you can browse the collection and get the auction price. Below is the link to the New York Times piece on the Auction.

OMG

This is amazing! My favourite quote is, "I have been wearin' dis weave for yeeaars and I have put a lot of money into it. My weave saved my life." I hear ya gurl. Once you put a weave on, it takes the force of the Canadian North to pull you out of that addiction. But thank god this bitch had her weave because it stopped a bullet dead in its tracks. (Ha ha, no pun intended. Now I know some of you are weave illiterate so that is a pun because you sew your weave into your own braided hair, and each row is called a track. Now you heard.) And in case you need a visual check this one of my very first Property posts.

Wow this is so illegal

Francesco's piece from the Power Plant show is on YouTube, check it out.

But isn't he a genius?

Why i love Francesco Vezzoli

http://www.artforum.com/diary/id=22033

Vezzoli's, seen in the above photo on the right with Miuccia Prada courtesy of art forum, has a new show. "Greed," which opened at Gogosian in Rome earlier this month, and sounds amazing from what The Diary says. The show opens with a commercial, that's right. Filmed by none other Roman Polanski and features Michelle Williams and Natalie Portman fighting over a perfume called, what else, Greed. Cathryn Drake who wrote the piece for art forum said that opinions about the commercial were mixed. And of course people compared it to Vezzoli's most famous work the trailer for Caligula, which I saw here in Toronto, at the Power Plant talk Vezzoli gave. Despite that, the show sounds right up my alley. And the after party sounded equally as amazing. Vezzoli has a great personal reputation, which I can personally confirm. He was a doll when Paul attacked him with star-studded awkwardness, by telling him that he could not miss Joan Crawford's bracelets on display at Yedessa's and then running off without another word. Anyway, I digress but I can only imagine he is as unassuming as always. The best part of the piece, and I bet, the party ,came at the end when Vezzoli handed out impromptu party gifts for the last revelers. The gift? A copy of the morning's International Herald Tribune covered in ad paper for Vezzoli's perfume Greed. OMG I need to see this commercial, and the prints.

I'm getting so excited for DC

I can't wait

California Legislature finally passes budget.

blah blah ... wait open primaries, that's interesting. Who is this guy Abel Maldonado? Sounds like he is running for higher office

The Post Cartoon

This cartoon appeared yesterday in The Post and refers to Travis the chimp, who was shot to death by police in Stamford, Conn. on Monday after it mauled a friend of its owner. The cartoon has drawn obvious criticism and debate about our Country's relationship with racism.

O Dunkin

I was looking for the new Dunkin' Donuts commercial about their new, for home, ground coffee. It is genius, but not on YouTube yet. Instead i found this one, which also ridiculous. Fritalian

Liza needs...

So a friend of mine reminded me of the best Google game. You type your name and needs into the search and see what comes up. I have done this at least a dozen times and i always crack up when I read what I "need." And then today I found this. Another blogger by the name of Liza did a funny review of the best of our needs. Here are the highlights in my opinion.

1. Liza needs to get a life and a new face, her time is over and doesn't she realise that?
I am always complaining about how my face looks old, it's great to see google agrees.

2. Liza needs a storyline but with something new like the fashion industry.
I often think of myself in terms of television, or film story board so this doesn't surprise me.

3. Liza needs to recover from trauma.
really?

4. Liza needs TIME OFF from relationships.
Boy when they say time off they really mean it.

5. Like all Border Collies, Liza needs a job to do.
This one is my favourite, by far. I agree I do need a job to do, and I am a Border Collie

6. Come on, big boy. Have some sex with old Liza. Liza needs the boom-boom. (!!!)
Yea come on, what are you waiting for

7. Liza needs to be fed and put in bed.
I agree

8. Liza needs time to work on her old Mustang and play with the pets.
If only I did have a Mustang, actually I am a Chevy girl but the sentiment is there.

The Harder they Come

Big theatre news for the not so theatrical

Mirvish will host the North American premiere of the British reggae musical, The Harder They Come, based on the 1972 film starring Jimmy Cliff, in the summer of 2009. Cliff was on hand in Toronto yesterday to sing Higher and Higher and Rivers of Babylon, some of the hits featured in the show.

Walter Niedermayr

Looking forward to the show. Now I know why Paul wanted me to hang the Vergaras closer together.

The District - Episode 2

Iman Crosson, who did add me on Facebook I'm happy to report, is at it again. This week another episode of The District came out. And he referenced Dan and Jessi. It was great that he was able to get the Aftershow into The District storyline. Nice montage with "you" as well.

Desiree Rogers is the Fiercest Bitch in the White House

This is not the first I have heard of Ms. Rogers - Barrrack's new Social Secretary, (by the way does anyone know of any of the other Social Secretaries offhand? I didn't think so.) Paul mentioned her to me several weeks back. First of all, look at her nails - impeccable. Also she is a fierce black diva with a Harvard MBA. Yes ma'am. And she is a closet Republican and gave 2,000 to the Bush campaign. And amazingly I think that is fierce. But all of that is nothing compared to the fact that she is sitting next to Anna Wintour at New York Fashion Week. Go 'head girl, I would love for the White House to be glamorous again. I mean I know that Barrrack needs to project a stoic and pragmatic image in the face of certain current challenges. But this woman is the Social Secretary and she is doing her job. So let's not get all uppity. Ms. Rogers is so far the best thing I have seen in the Obama White House. Well and this, but Obama can't take credit for The District. I wish that Desiree could also be the Press Secretary, since Alexyss K. Tylor wasn't available, but sadly we all have to listen to Bobby instead.

Don't worry Gibbs nobody is clapping here.

MIKA MIKA MIKA

I really do think this guy has got the potential to be a legend. The new stuff is sounding as amazing as ever.

Lindsey - Fierce Nails

I posted this, because it might have been easy to miss Lohan's fierce nails, what with the desperate cry for help that is so obvious in this particular photo. Anyway the lezzies got in a fight while coke-walking to their hotel in NYC last night, shocking I know.

Simply Ageless

Outer beauty is really the most important thing. I mean if you have that you are sure to be happy and successful. And outer beauty means that you have done all of the really hard work in life. I also love the concept of ageless. It is one thing to look young but it is really an accomplishment to be ageless. Thank you Ellen now I know what to strive for.

I'm in love

My new television obsessions

When you spend as much time writing from home, on all things popular culture, as I do, you watch a fair amount of TV. But I have forgone a lot of the bullshit out there and now keep it strictly business. Of course I do my sociological research with The City and all Its affiliates. And I love a lot of what I get on TMN - The United States of Tara, is really strong and a stand out for me right now. I am also into Paul Gross's ZOS, great rebound from Paschendale. ZOS which stands for Zones of Operation is like Generation Kill but it's about the Canadian UN mission in the Balkins, so there isn't as much large-scale confrontation or outright stupidity. It is really good. Plus, Flight of Conchords is back and on track for a great season.
But there have been some recent surprises to my television programing. Because of the writing I have been missing The View. It might also be because I am still mourning Rosie's departure. O well, I still love the ladies I just don't feel like watching. But I have been obsessed with "808" a show which was recently mentioned in this New York Times piece. "808" is a reality based show about life on Oahu's North Shore. Ok fine it's about hot surfer boys. I have also watched a lot of The Volvo Ocean Race Weekly, a recap of the Volvo Ocean Sailing Race, which is so awesome. And also full of hotties. I have noticed this winter too, unlike years past, that all of the Vancouver 2010 hype is getting me into both The World Alpine and World of Skiing. Both of which I have been watching non-stop. Anyway now you know I spend my day watching other people be athletic.

Dayum

Dlisted is reporting that this chick, who holds the Guinness World Record for longest nails was in a car crash over and her claws were the victims. This is truly tragic.

She's so stunning

I know it's cliche but what can I say, I see what you see. Angie is absolutely gorgeous. And I think her BAFTA red carpet look is her best of award season thus far.

This bitch is givin it with the nails

This is not the first time I have posted about Fantasia's fierce nails. But DAYUM she is working it with these talons. You must click on the image so that you can see her nails up close. Fierceness.

Shout out to Ryan Tate at Gawker

Hillary Clinton Thanks Bill For Snogging That Intern

Surrounded by friends for her Secretary of State swearing in, Hillary Clinton felt comfortable enough to thank husband Bill for a "lifetime of — all kinds of experiences," i.e. that intern slut.

Everyone laughed because Hillary is obviously now over her husband getting the oral sex from Monica Lewinsky and so forth, having attained her lifelong dream of being a secretary to the president, a man, who defeated her. And she has Bill's performance on the campaign trail to thank for that wonderful position she finds herself in, in someone else's cabinet.

Which is why Hillary acknowledged she owes Bill for a life of "extraordinary richness." As rich as, say, a dark and bitter cup of coffee, which keeps you awake all night, trembling.

Hillary is going to get along with her former presidential rival Barack Obama just fine for the next eight years, because she'll sublimate any and all anger about her election humiliation into quiet fury at her husband. (He can take it.)

Fuckin' Newsies

I have avoided commenting on the Christan Bale saga, because a.) it has gotten so much attention elsewhere that I didn't need to. And b.) I kind of feel sorry for the guy. He's obviously an intense actor and I have definitely seen those people before, they can be quite lovely. If you aren't doing anything wrong. Anyway, when I saw this this morning I knew I had to post it. Newsies is one of my favourite musicals of all times. I still own it on VHS, and I wont get rid of my tape player until I can replace all my VHS movie musicals.

The Vergara Pieces

I think she might be a genius.

Or maybe we just have the same aesthetic. Because I love Virginia's work. And I think they look amazing in my apartment. I had my first party since they arrived, this past Christmas and they were the centerpiece for a very surreal party moment. Picture me, somewhat drunkenly inviting my neighbor/ drug hustlin', Vietnamese manicurist in to see them.

He was also a fan.

Because Your Worth It

Well it looks like L'Oreal knows their market. A week ago I got this comment on the blog and was intrigued enough to follow up. Of course I was hoping that L'Oreal realized that I could be the ultimate marketing tool, and that they just had to pay me thousands of dollars and help launch me as the coolest blogger around. I mean everyone is interested in mascara commercials right? Well that wasn't exactly what they were thinking; but they did send me tons of stuff, including mascara. So I'm not complaining. I tested some of it out last weekend, and I think it was a success. Now I can stop considering getting salon eyelash extensions. What do you think, am I creating wind with my eyelashes like this?

New Season of Flight of the Conchords

The second season of Flight of the Conchords started a few weeks ago, and it has definitely measured up to the first season so far. This week the guys were being tormented by different nemeses. Brett started a gang to fend off rival rappers and ended up attacking a child vandal. While Jermaine, got mixed up with Murray in some Consulate drama with the Australians. This of course required a West Side Story homage, with the boys doing there own version of Stay Cool.

Don't Axe Me No Questions

I remember when R. Kelly recorded this song with NIVEA he was not even allowed to be in the studio at the same time as her, because she was under age, and we all know how that is a problem for Mr. Kelly. But I thought this song was G.

Monday, February 2, 2009

Aww Hilary I love you.

as per the Perez post - skip to the 1:50 mark to hear Hilary dig at Bill for all of the, "experiences." Ehem. But it seemed like it was all in good fun, and it got the press core chuckling. I was truthfully more moved by Hill's swearin' in. Work it! I am also loving the brooch

Fucking Groundhogs

Those damn groundhogs all saw their shadows today.

Which means we can expect six more weeks of this.

Although those of us in Toronto know it will be more like twelve weeks

Superbowl XLIII

Amazing game. I was with the Steelers all the way, but I was so excited when Arizona came back late in the game and made it interesting. A truely entertaining game, not to be forgotten.
